On January 1, 2014, Fiat announced it would be acquiring the remaining shares of Chrysler owned by the VEBA worth $3.65 billion. Just under two years sales numbers for both Cherokee and Wranglers are impressive.
According to Autodata Corp USA sales for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles was up 13 percent in te last month of 2015. FCA sources said Jeep Compass, Jeep Renegade, and the Toledo-built Jeep Cherokee; set monthly sales records. Company officials also said the Jeep Wrangler JK set a December (2015) record.
In 2015 both Cherokees and Wrangles set records by selling 202,702 Jeep Wranglers and 220,260 Jeep Cherokees. Record sales also led to record production. Toledo Assembly Complex built 294,273 Cherokees and 244,720 Wranglers last year for a total of 538,993. Toledo-build Cherokees and Wranglers accounted for 49 percent of all Jeeps sold in the United States in 2015, which is aprox 20 percent of Fiat Chrysler's total U.S. sales. Overall, Fiat Chrysler sold 1.24 million Jeeps worldwide last year, up from 1 million in 2014.
The Toledo Assembly Complex is the only USA site that makes the Wrangler. Starting late last year, Fiat Chrysler added Cherokee production in China, however these vehicles will only be sold in China.
For 2016 Industry expert predicts that due to savings from low fuel costs coupled with improving economic conditions will keep the vehicle market on the road toward another sales record this year.
