So lets fill you in with little history lesson. Jeep CJ was released with different names and modifications since its birth back in 1940. Initially it was called CJ-2; which by the way will be impossible to find now a days. As the year passed Jeep CJ5 CJ7 and CJ8 were introduced. Now a days most popular Jeep CJ models are between the years of 1976 thru 1986. And then in 1987 Jeep Wranglers were introduced.
The probability of finding a CJ in good shape comes due to the numbers of its production, around 600,000 Jeep CJ5 were produced till the new model replaced it in 1983. Jeep CJ7 is the next model in line, whose production didn’t start until late 1970’s but wasn’t kept in production for long, ended by 1986.
